2008 International Brain Tumour Awareness Week and the Walk Around the World
for Brain Tumours
In support of the world wide efforts to raise awareness about brain tumours, Meagan’s
Walk participants once again “pledged” their kilometres in support of
the 2008 Walk Around the World for Brain Tumours. Between January 1
and November 1, 2008, walkers in all corners of the globe will help the International
Brain Tumour Alliance reach their goal of encircling the earth’s circumference
at the equator three times — 120,000kms!
This 2008 goal is part of a determined effort to beat the record from 2007, when
groups around the world made a remarkable effort to support the first annual Walk
Around the World. The generous response showed that supporters pledged
enough kilometres to walk around the world equator 2½ times!
Brain tumours spell “challenge” in any language! Brain tumours
do not discriminate by sex, race, geography, age, religion or class. They
affect people randomly, and the cause of most primary brain tumours is unknown.
The Walk Around the World for Brain Tumours promotes greater collaboration,
greater knowledge, greater hope! Walks undertaken with the intention of encouraging
awareness about brain tumours can pledge their mileage towards the 2008 Walk Around
the World for Brain Tumours.
With increased numbers of participants on Mother’s Day, Meagan’s Walk
participants pledged 12,500 km to the cumulative needed total for the 2008 Walk Around
the World! Well done!
